BibleToday’s question: Which chapter in Isaiah has been referred to recently by several Christian leaders regarding the election of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States? The answer is the 45th chapter. You can’t help but notice that the number of the chapter matches the number of the new presidency. I’ll return to this in a moment.

If you’re like me, you probably have several friends and family members who are not happy with the outcome of the presidential election last November. Even if you are a solid conservative who usually votes for Republican candidates, you were probably forced to recognize that Donald Trump gives new meaning to the word “different!” Dr. Lance Wallnau in his book, God’s Chaos Candidate, states that Trump is “a wrecking ball to the spirit of political correctness.”*

In May 2016, leading up to the Political Party Conventions followed by the election on November 8th, I had a shocking experience. A close friend of mine sent me a YouTube link. He added the message, “You don’t want to miss this!” It is a recording of an April 21, 2016, Christian Radio Station interview with Mark Taylor. Mark is a retired fireman who just happens to be a good friend of my friend who sent me the link. In this interview, Mark shared publicly for the first time a prophecy that he received on April 28, 2011. The prophecy was quite involved and sounded as though it was a full paragraph or more in length. The primary message was that the Lord was going to use Donald Trump as President of the United States to re-establish America and to expose corruption in government, the church and everywhere. The prophecy goes into detail about how the Lord plans to use a re-established America. Don’t overlook the fact that Mark declares that he received this prophecy five years before the radio interview.

I can well imagine that many people hearing the prophecy for the first time would have reacted with something like “SAY WHAT? God is going to use that rich-rude-dude??” I am also fully aware that some churches in the Body of Christ do not believe that the gift of prophecy is active today. They believe in something call Cessationism. It is the doctrine that spiritual gifts such as speaking in tongues, prophecy and healing ceased with the apostolic age. I am definitely not a follower of Cessationism because I have seen spiritual gifts enacted powerfully many times in my lifetime.

In the radio interview of Mark Taylor, the hosts discuss several places in the Bible where God used pagan kings to accomplish His goals. This leads us back to Isaiah 45. See what you think:  Thus says the Lord to Cyrus His anointed, whom I have taken by the right hand, to subdue nations before him and to loose the loins of kings; to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut: “I will go before you and make the rough places smooth; I will shatter the doors of bronze and cut through their iron bars. “I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden wealth of secret places, so that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, who calls you by your name. “For the sake of Jacob My servant, and Israel My chosen one, I have also called you by your name; I have given you a title of honor though you have not known Me. (Isaiah 45:1-4)  As is true with all prophecy, Isaiah was looking into the future – 150 years in this case.

True to Isaiah’s prophesy we see 150 years later:  “Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and He has appointed me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all His people, may the Lord his God be with him, and let him go up!’” (2 Chronicles 36:23)

I have no problem believing that God has often used a U.S. President to accomplish His will. If you are a student of Bible prophecy you know the major significance of the date May 14, 1948, when Israel became a nation again after 2500 years. The President at that time was Harry S. Truman. Against the advice of most of his advisors he used the power of the U.S. to strongly support Israel becoming a nation!

Truman was the only president of the 20th century who did not have a college education, but, he was a serious student of the Bible. In November 1953, just a few months after leaving the presidency, Truman was brought to the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York to meet a group of Jewish dignitaries. Accompanying him was his good friend Eddie Jacobson. Jacobson introduced his friend to the assembled theologians: “This is the man who helped create the State of Israel.” Truman retorted, “What do you mean, ‘helped to create’? I am Cyrus. I am Cyrus.”**

If you choose to listen to some of or the entire Mark Taylor interview, keep in mind all of the extremely negative responses to Donald Trump over the 11 months since the interview. Of course, these very strong attacks were occurring throughout the presidential campaign – not just since April 2016.

Here’s your next question: Where would you go in Scripture if you were looking for definite understanding (assurance) of God’s love for you? Here’s a link for those of you who might not have a Bible at your finger tips: Praying that you will allow the transforming power of His Word into your heart!!!!!

  1. Interesting. Didn’t know that about Truman. A hundred years from now, we will all see with clarity all of these events. Meanwhile, we hold the Father’s hand. Appreciate you, Bill!
