Today’s question: Where would you go in Scripture if you were looking for definite understanding (assurance) of God’s love for you? Of course there are many places, because the Bible has so much to say about God’s love for us. I would recommend what Scripture has to say about Jesus’ primary reason for coming in the flesh to earth:
- He was sent by the Father – He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? – Rom. 8:32
- He was mocked – Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman cohort around Him. They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” They spat on Him, and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head. – Matt. 27:27-30
- He allowed Himself to be tormented – …and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. – 1 Peter 2:23-24
- He submitted Himself to a cruel and painful death – They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha. There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between. – John 19:17-18*
I believe I could not find any stronger proof of God’s love for me beyond His gift of Jesus to the world! As Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” – John 15:13
Not only did He offer up Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, but on the third day He defeated death, hell and the grave when He rose from the dead. His resurrection is the foundational truth of our beliefs as Christians. Without His resurrection there would be no church! Because of His resurrection we can know that He really is who He claimed to be! He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said… – Matt. 28:6.
Here’s your next question: What is the name of the tool contained in most Bibles that gives you a chart that compares what each of the four gospels has to say about Jesus? Here’s a link for those of you who might not have a Bible at your finger tips: www.BibleGateway.com. Praying that you will allow the transforming power of His Word into your heart!!!!!
